WHAT'S IN FLOWER NOW ?

At the moment many of the plants in our garden are in full flower so this week I've been busy going around taking photos of them all. Here are some of the plants that are in flower at the moment in our garden.

EUCALYPTUS SILVER PRINCESS

Eucalyptus caesia, also known as the "silver princess" is a gum tree admired for its stunning silver branches and beautiful weeping habit. Two subspecies are recognised. Subspecies caesia and subspecies magna . The caesia is a smaller tree growing around six to nine meters in height while the magna is a taller tree of up to 15 meters.

Our garden is home to five Eucalyptus caesia, silver princesses; four of which are of a large size but all are doing very well and are extremely healthy. The two largest ones are in full flower for the first time this year and they are just stuning to look at. They don't need watering once mature but can benefit when young from occasional waterings especially if you live in a dry area.

Our largest silver princess showing off the reason this plant was given the name of silver princess. Here are a few photos of the flowers on this stunning plant.

It is a magnifcant plant that is a must for any garden with the room to accommodate it. With its stunning beauty this australian native will make a fantastic addition to any garden and it is almost guaranteed that it will grow its way in to your heart as well.

HAKEA BURRENDONG BEAUTY

This is Hakea Burrendong Beauty, a hybrid hakea that arose in Burrendong Arboretum N.S.W. It's a layered spreading low shrub when young but gets taller with age. It grows 1.5m wide and 0.4 - 1.2m high. It's an extremely adaptable plant growing in full sun to semi-shade in well drained moist to dry sites. Best results are achieved when planted in acid to neutral loams but also happy in sand or clay soil. Extremely drought hardy although it responds to occasional deep summer watering.

Hakea Burrendong Beauty in our garden. It is doing very well and is flowering for the first time this year. It flowers down the length of the stem and the flowers look fantastic in contrast to the beauty of the green leaves.

EREMOPHILA YANNA ROAD

This is Eremophila Yanna Road, a very hardy and tough plant. Its stunning silver leaves contrast just beautifully with its purple flowers. It really is a great addition for any garden. It grows best in a sunny open position in well drained soil. Yanna Road can be pruned after flowering to maintain compact growth. It grows one metre by one metre.

Eremophila Yanna Road in our garden. We have two of them and both are thriving with very little attention. They're a good bird attracting plant and we often see honeyeaters drinking from the flowers.

CORREA FEDERATION BELL

This is my favourite Correa. It has stunning flowers and is a very good bird attracting plant. It copes extremely well with the soil that we have here where we live. It's clay soil. Federation Bell grows to around 1.5 meters. It prefers a sunny or partly shaded position in well drained soil. Pruning can help to keep a compact shape and promote more flowers and the plant can be given fertiliser for native plants once a year.
